Light Switch :: images

video installation || May 07 2005 || The University of Texas at Austin

  Over 3000 images were used in the installation, most of them animated through stop-motion techniques. Moving neurons spanned the ceiling, walls, and floor to give an overall feeling of movement, and a narrative constructed out of found footage was projected midway down the corridor. Each column featured a still projection, constructed from found art historical slides.

The neurons, narrative, and stills were brought together to simulate mind and memory and the experience of a journey within them. The narrative was non-linear, ie, no direct story was intended. The juxtaposition of images was intended to create a story subject to the viewer's interpretation.
Nik and Erich generated the sound for the installation.
