GARFIELD of FORKING PATHS

This book is a retext of two other texts.

One, the standard Garfield comic in which our feline hero battles wits with his nemesis, the scale. In the original comic, Garfield gets several different readings from the scale, finally running away as the scale chides him for not having changed the batteries.

The other text is the Borges story The Garden of Forking Paths. This story has to do with a concept of time in which every possible outcome of an action occurs. This is a forking, repeating version of time.

In my version of this, the battle between Garfield and the scale becomes circular, with parts repeating and other parts forking in other ways. The book unfolds in such a way that the reader is initially cajoled into a certain reading but it then allows for other readings as the book becomes unfolded.
