Experiment number three is an extension of the documentation of change in the still life. Elements of the still life or themes inspired by it were to be placed in three-dimensional space á la Joseph Cornell, making a time composite. The time composite was then translated one more time back into a two-dimensional space through Flash.
The final box seemed to be too literal of a representation of the idea of an object's meaning (in this case, the cigarette). I tried to represent the different layers of meaning (literal, observed, and personal) with the different layers of the "box." This part lacked some more digging. After some conversations with faculty from the Art and RTF departments, I was left with two things to chew on: addiction and heartbeats...
In the two-dimensional translation, I wanted to deal with loss. Loss is nothing without people to give meaning to the act of losing. This was where I think the flyer experiment may have been heading. The texts in the middle section are obituaries and texts relating to loss (some of them old journal entries of mine).
The Flash movie was successful as a pretty good starting point. However, I would like to add some more depth to it as well as exploit Flash's layering ability further.
