| pop-up is an exploration of space. it is portable,
it is interactive, it functions in three dimensions. after playing with many different strategies of pop-up, i eventually realized that text served as a fascinating subject to move through space. while i was brooding over what to "say," my partner and i started playing word games that explored both political subject matter and the child-like process of rhyme. the rhyme that came forth was: i hate straight i fear queer i pick dick i catch snatch i think chink i fight white the rhymes have become reduced to just words; concepts that are each powerful in their own right. playing with ideas of gender and race takes on an ambiguity. hopefully this ambiguity illuminates as well as confounds. |
